Fermi Development is pleased to be supporting SGE through the provision of strategic site identification and evaluation services as it progresses plans for a proposed fleet of 14 GE Vernova Hitachi BWRX-300 Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) across three UK locations.
Announced today, the proposed programme represents a significant milestone for the UK’s advanced nuclear sector. If realised, the fleet would provide up to 4.2GW of reliable, low carbon electricity, helping strengthen the UK’s energy security while supporting economic growth and the transition to a cleaner energy future.
As part of SGE’s wider deployment team, Fermi Development is contributing its expertise in strategic site identification and evaluation to support the programme as it develops.
Selecting suitable locations is one of the earliest and most important stages of any advanced nuclear project. It requires far more than identifying available land. Successful deployment depends on a detailed understanding of planning policy, environmental constraints, grid connectivity, infrastructure, transport links and the wider opportunities each location can offer over the lifetime of a project.
